Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation ( SMBC ) has appointed Wendy Ooi as head of corporate banking department in Malaysia, effective June 16. This follows closely the recent appointment of Joyce Tee as head of corporate banking department, Asia-Pacific.
Based in Malaysia, Ooi will be reporting to Nizar Faisal, deputy chief executive officer of SMBC Malaysia, and Joyce Tee. She will lead the bank’s non-Japanese corporate banking strategy in Malaysia and strengthen its position as a trusted partner to global and regional corporates across Asia-Pacific, working closely with teams across the SMBC Group network.
Ooi has over two decades of experience in corporate and investment banking, and most recently headed Standard Chartered Malaysia’s corporate, commercial, and institutional banking business.
She started her career at RHB Bank Bhd and has since held various leadership roles, such as director of client coverage at The Royal Bank of Scotland Bhd.
